There’s no better time of year to take a weekend trip than summer, and you don’t have to venture more than a few hours away from the Twin Cities before you stumble on a dozen different towns competing to be the best weekend getaway. With so many destination options, it can be hard to choose just one place to make your two-day escape. To help you narrow down your search, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite places to wile away the weekend.
Lake Geneva, WI – A charming resort town nestled around the beautiful lake, Lake Geneva is our very favorite getaway destination. Spend the weekend taking a tour of the lake by boat, golfing at one of the world class golf resorts, and sampling the town’s many fine dining restaurants.

Bayfield, WI – Small town escapes don’t get more picturesque than Bayfield. This quaint harbor town is the gateway to the 22 coastal islands that make up the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Explore the many lighthouses, sea caves, and hiking trails that line the shore, or take to the water and experience some of the best kayaking in the world.

Grand Marais, MN – Home to one of the top artist colonies in the country, the town’s location between the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior makes it easy to see why Grand Marais is an artist’s paradise. Browse galleries and boutiques downtown, or get inspired with a workshop at the Grand Marais Art Colony.
